The Hawker Hunter is possibly one of the most visually perfect jet fighters to take to the skies. The prototype first flew in 1951 and the F6 was one of the definitive marques, forming the basis for many export models. Entering service in 1954 the aircraft was crippled with a very short range, but this and other teething problems were corrected as the aircraft was developed. The Hunter became a mainstay of the Royal Air Force, used as a fighter and for ground attack amongst other roles. Retired from front line service in 1970, the RAF carried on using Hunters in secondary roles for a further 20 years. Hawker had a brisk trade in export Hunters to 19 countries around the world, and a small number of examples are now flown privately.

The Warpaint series of books are an excellent reference and the Hawker Hunter book is no exception. The 60 pages contain many colour and black-and-white photographs, along with colour plates and several pages of scale drawings. It covers the initial prototype before going on to discuss the variants developed - fighter (F) and FGA (Fighter, Ground Attack?), trainer, Figher Reconnaissance, and the wide ranging exports that resulted from the development programme.

The scale material in this book is particularly strong for the F6 and a wide range of colour schemes, including RAF Squadrons, aerobatic teams, Swiss, Belgian, Saudi and Oman export versions.

This book is brand new and sourced direct from the publishers.
