Possibly the most notorious aircraft never to enter service with the RAF, only one example took to the air before the programme was cancelled. The one example to fly, XR219, came to an ignominious end on an RAF firing range. The RAF Museum at Cosford has the second example, XR220, which was to fly on the day the programme was cancelled. All the other airframes, and the associated jigs, were cut up on government orders. However, XR222, now on display at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, survived and was initially taken to Cranford before moving to Duxford. The only other known surviving fragment is a cockpit on display at the Brooklands museum.
This photo DVD contains 92 images and 12 minutes of widescreen video. There are 84 images of TSR-2 XR220 showing details of:
- Airframe from various angles (10)
- undercarriage and undercarriage bays (15)
- air brakes (5)
- engine intakes and exhaust (5)
- Avionics and bomb bays (6)
- cockpit area (6)
- wings and droop wing tips (7)
- Elevons and rudder (6)
- Ejector seat - removed (7)
- Bristol-Siddeley Olympus engine and jet pipe/afterburner - removed and separated (14)
- Information panels (3)
There are also eight images of the TSR-2 cockpit section on display at the Brooklands museum in Surrey (including the information plaque which describes the uses it was put to).
The 12 minute video is a walk-around of the Cosford airframe (note this has no soundtrack).
All images are 3000x2000 (approx) and the video footage is MPEG-2 in a high quality 16:9 format (compatible with Windows Media Player, Apple Quicktime and the majority of Linux media players; some DVD players may also be able to play this clip straight from the disc).
