The Hawker Typhoon was developed as a 12-gun, 24-cylinder replacement of the Hawker Hurricane. First flying in 1939,
both airframe and the Napier Sabre engine suffered from development problems, the aircraft finally entering service in
1941. Despite a top speed of 425mph the aircraft suffered from a poor rate of climb. It was as a close support aircraft
(the same role the Northrop A-10 Warthog occupies with the USAF) that it found it's niche, the design being modified to
carry four 20mm Hispano cannon instead of the original twelve Browning .303 machine guns.
This CD contains 106 images, all 3000x2000 (approx), of Hawker Typhoon 1B MN235 which is currently on display at the
RAF Museum, Hendon. This is though to be the only surviving Typhoon in the world, and was donated to the museum by the
Smithsonian Institute.
